HC Advises on Improved Humanitarian Response Through Participatory Processes

The Humanitarian Collaborative advised on participatory practices to improve the quality of humanitarian response at two conferences in Istanbul, Turkey in October. For the International Humanitarian Studies Association annual conference, the HC presented in a panel entitled “Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services in Crisis Zones: Psychosocial Liberation through Local Knowledge and Decolonized Practice,” sharing good practices in community-based healing approaches. At Save the Children’s Good Practices in Child Participation and Leadership workshop, the HC led discussions on effective research practices involving children and shared examples from around the world. Living up to its title, the workshop included a number of children working on research and policy change – an inspiring aspect of the gathering that brought new ideas and possibilities for collaboration!
