Humanitarian Horizons Series: Breakfast with a Diplomat
The Humanitarian Collaborative is excited to announce the next Humanitarian Horizons Series, “Breakfast with a Diplomat,” featuring a special opportunity to enjoy breakfast with Ambassador David Satterfield, Director of the Rice University Baker Institute for Public Policy and former U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon and Turkey.
The Honorable David M. Satterfield has more than four decades of diplomatic and leadership experience, including serving as special envoy for the Horn of Africa, Assistant Secretary of State, National Security Council staff director, and Ambassador to Lebanon and Turkey. He has also held roles as Chargé d’Affaires in Iraq and Egypt. Most recently, from October 2023 to May 2024, President Biden appointed him U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Humanitarian Issues, leading U.S. diplomacy in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Ambassador Satterfield now leads the Edward P. Djerejian Center for the Middle East at Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy, where he serves as Director and the Janice and Robert McNair Chair in Public Policy.
The Humanitarian Horizons Series hopes to provide a space for engagement and open dialogue among students who are interested in addressing the world’s pressing humanitarian and development challenges. Throughout the series, we bring diverse professionals and experts in the field of humanitarian policy to interact with students on a wide variety of topics.
