Humanitarian Collaborative Co-Hosts “When Children Speak, We Learn” Film Screening and Conversation
The Humanitarian Collaborative co-hosted an online film screening and conversation featuring children in Colombia and Venezuela. When Children Speak, We Learn centered on a core premise: no decisions about children in crisis should be made without children. The session included behind-the-scenes clips and a documentary demonstrating how play, imagination, and child-led participatory methods help young children express their lived experiences of migration, crisis, and displacement. The project was collaborative from the outset, with children shaping key elements of the work, including the project’s name, Dreams en Route (Sueños en Ruta). The discussion highlighted the importance of ethical participation, ensuring that children and families had choice and control over how their contributions were shared, and underscored the value of child-centered approaches in humanitarian response.
All project materials, and a curriculum guide with activities and lesson plans for late elementary and early middle school classrooms, are available online in both English and Spanish.
