Feminist Resourcing in Humanitarian Action
Humanitarian Collaborative Practitioner Fellows Jeanne Ward, Sara Abbas, and Amel Gorani, along with students Allaire Tetrault (MPP), Phoebe Helms (MPP), and Lauren Yeboah-Kodie (MPP), are advancing a feminist approach to humanitarian response by channeling learning, strategy, and resources toward women-led and feminist organizations, particularly those addressing gender-based violence (GBV). At a time when GBV programming is experiencing severe funding cuts globally, the team is exploring alternative resourcing models to close urgent gaps.
The team is developing an outreach script and donor guide to support philanthropic investment in GBV-related work, as well as a think piece on how affect and emotional narratives in humanitarian response can reinforce hierarchy and colonial hierarchies. They are also producing a guide to nonprofit funders in Sudan to support emerging feminist organizations in navigating the donor landscape, which will be produced by Napta, an organization founded by HC Practitioner Fellows Sara Abbas and Amel Gorani, that focuses on supporting Sudanese feminist and women-led organizations with resourcing and organizational strengthening.
